Musings on Jaws, Part 1…

jaws20banner201

So, Shock Totem’s blog is posting a series of articles/essays/random thoughts regarding our favorite Carcharodon carcharias (y’know, the shark). I’m pleased to share my own thoughts and memories on a movie that has become more than just a summer blockbuster. It’s an indelible part of popular culture.

I hope you’ll take a minute and go check out my guest post – you can read it here.

Thanks to John Boden for inviting me to participate.

Here’s to Women

Check out this blog from phenomenal editor and author A.J. Spedding.

Women in Horror – it’s not just for February.

Author, editor, caffeine-addict, wannabe ninja

I’ve been noticeably absent from my blog – not through choice but rather time constraints – I thought it fitting to return to it today. Just past Women in Horror Month, and it being International Women’s Day, what better time?

I am a woman working in horror, I am a woman writing horror, I am a woman raising a young woman… I am woman.  There are some, though, who don’t approve of that fantastic mix of women and horror (I’m not linking to any of that shite), and refuse to read any horror stories penned by women.  Hell, there are those who won’t read anything written by a woman, and while this might surprise some, it doesn’t surprise me – not in this world we find ourselves in.

Elitism exists in the publishing world, and has long-since been an issue for women who love the horror genre – those…

Ranks of the Rejected: Rose Blackthorn

Aeryn Rudel was kind enough to invite me to participate in his Ranks of the Rejected series. Besides asking some fun questions, he also said some very nice things about me – so check it out!

Aeryn Rudel's Rejectomancy

Welcome to the next installment of Ranks of the Rejected, where I interview working authors and ask them to bare their literary wounds for your amusement and edification. Make sure and check out the links to these writers’ works and websites. I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.

Today’s victim . . . er, subject is Rose Blackthorn. I’ve worked with Rose in my role as acquisitions editor through Skull Island eXpeditions, and I’ve gone head to head with her as a writer on numerous occasions at a bi-weekly flash fiction contest out at the Shock Totem forums, where she routinely trounced me and a dozen other writers. Rose is one of those writers whose talent is so great and seemingly effortless, she makes you feel kind of worthless in comparison when you read her stuff. (Gee, thanks, Rose.) She is also a mighty 17th level Rejectomancer who commands the advanced powers

Review of Seal Team 666, by Geno Mortensen

Seal Team 666 by Weston Ochse, reviewed by Geno Mortensen

I have a personally autographed copy of Seal Team 666 by Weston Ochse. I have read it once and I know that a review of it would be a great thing to do. This will not be an easy thing for me to do.
When I read the book, I got lost in the story. What I mean to say is, I felt like I was a part of the story. The things that were happening were going on around me. I was not just an observer. I was part of the fun and, sadly enough, confusion and chaos. There were times when I didn’t know the lingo that was being used, but it was explained to me.
Overall, I would recommend this book very highly to anyone. Especially anyone who has any kind of a military background.

Seal Team 666 is available at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Indiebound.
